Professor Karen ní Mheallaigh – and departmental mascot Noodles – were on Delos to participate in the World Human Forum’s summer meeting ‘Alpha Mission Δelos’, May 26-27. World-experts in the field of architecture and its history gathered together on Delos to discuss the global climate crisis and the future of humanity and outer space. The island, which is uninhabited today, was sacred in antiquity to the divine twins Apollo and Artemis, and made a beautiful setting for an event that brought together scientists, social scientists and humanists. Professor ní Mheallaigh delivered the closing address of the conference, speaking about the myth of Delos and connections with the modern space mission Artemis. This talk took place in the Theatre of Delos under the stars – a dramatic change from Gilman 108!
