Education: MA, Classics, University of Florida (2022)
BA, Classics & Ancient Mediterranean Studies, Pennsylvania State University (2020)
Charissa has been a Ph.D. student in the Classics Department since 2022. Her interests span primarily across Greek literature and society, with an undergraduate thesis exploring the construction of Homeric spaces and power in the Odyssey and a master's thesis on the legal, social, and dramatic roles of enslaved women in classical Athens.
Charissa's interests and work in Greco-Roman drama have led to her service on the CAMWS-affiliated Theater in Greece and Rome (TiGR) steering committee (2023-2026). She has published on Greek drama (2023) and Vergil (2025), and she has presented papers on Greek tragedy, Old Comedy, and Attic oratory. In support of her growing interest in the material culture of the Greco-Roman world, Charissa participated in the Classical Summer School at the American Academy in Rome in 2023. Her dissertation will explore the representation of bodies in Aristophanes and the variety of disciplines from which the poet draws (such as science and medicine) to imagine those bodies.
