Education: BA, Classics, McGill University, 2021

Keisuke Nakajima (Jima) joined JHU Classics in 2022 after graduating from McGill University. Jima is currently working on his dissertation research, investigating the reception of ancient medical texts during the development of modern fitness in the late 19th to early 20th century. He is interested in how the ancient world was used and appropriated during this period by the enthusiasts of physical culture, and how it shaped our own understanding of what it means to be healthy and/or beautiful.

Outside of school, Jima enjoys bike touring, running, going to group fitness classes, and volunteering for Ulman Foundation, a Baltimore based non-profit that helps young adults with cancer. He is also a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and he hopes to expand his career in the fitness and wellness field after completing his PhD.
